The 5 Essentials of a Dream Team Wedding Squad

You have finally decided to tie the knot and make your fairytale dreams come true. Congratulations! But let's be real here, planning a wedding can be a huge undertaking on top of all the other things going on in your life. That’s why it’s important to have a reliable and capable wedding party by your side to help you navigate through the madness.

Undoubtedly you have, or will, put a lot of thought into the big things like the venue, budget, and guest list. But have you given equal attention to who you're inviting to be a part of your wedding party? Speaking from experience, having the right people in your corner can make all the difference (and, possibly avoid some major meltdowns). So, here are some qualities to look for when choosing your squad:

#1 Supportive - The ideal wedding party members are the ones who understand that this day is all about you and your partner. They should be content to let you shine and not be in it for their own egos or to compete with each other. So, definitely think about how the group as a whole will mesh together.

#2 Proactive - You're going to have a million things on your mind leading up to the wedding day. Having people who can catch some of the balls you're juggling and run with YOUR vision will be a lifesaver. Of course, don't take advantage of your wedding party, but it will be nice to know you have people you can lean on in a pinch

#3 Reliable - Can you depend on your friends and loved ones? Do they keep their commitments and respond to emails promptly? If you answered "no" to any of these questions, maybe rethink asking them to be a wedding party member.

#4 Calm under pressure - Something unexpected is bound to happen during the planning phase or on the actual wedding day. You'll need an army of folks around you that can creatively and calmly keep you sane. Drama-free is what you're looking for.

#5 Financially able - Let's face it, being a part of a wedding party is a financial obligation. It's not just about paying for the outfit, there's also the shower or bachelor party, which can now turn into a weekend-long event. You don't want to put your loved ones in a financial hardship, so consider their personal circumstances before asking them to be a part of your squad.

And remember, even if some of your special friends and loved ones are not a part of the wedding party, they can still play an important role on your wedding day as “Guests of Honor” who carry out special duties. With creativity, everyone can feel like a key participant.

So, take a deep breath, make thoughtful (though difficult) decisions and then trust that your wedding party will help make your big day everything you have dreamt of and more.
